Continuing Competence

Every two years candidates will have to demonstrate their continuing competence by successfully completing a test which covers compliance with relevant waste controls and policy.

The first two year period started on 1 March 2009 and ends on 28 February 2011 (Extended to 29 February 2012).

The format for the test is based on a question and multiple choice answers (ie, one right answer and three wrong answers) and the questions cover two aspects; a generic knowledge section, which is common to all competences, comprising legislation, health and safety and environmental protection and an 'activity-specific' section, eg, for landfill, treatment and/or transfer activities. If he person holds more than one competence award and wants to maintain all their competencies then they will have to choose multiple 'activity specific options'.

The method for this will be computer based and delivered through a suite of 'independent test centres' across the UK (please contact Wamitab for further information or visit their web site to book a test).


A T NERAC has put together a Continuing Competence One Day Refresher Course for all existing CoTC holders in order to assist candidates prepare for this test(s). Why undertake a Refresher Course? Wamitab advises that all candidates should ensure that they have undertaken activities to obtain the necessary knowledge, skills etc before taking the appropriate test. Failure to do will incur additional costs for re-testing. The course will cover: generic knowledge activity specific competencies All courses are held at the Centre, registration from 9.45am for a 10.00am start, finishing approx 4.00pm. Refreshment and lunch is included along with free parking facilities. Delegates will be required to undertake further study following the course. PLEASE NOTE: ATTENDANCE ON THE REFRESHER COURSE DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT CANDIDATES WILL BE ABLE TO PASS THE WAMITAB CONTINUING COMPETENCE TEST.
